Changing Borders: Shifting Responsibilities?

In the modern day world borders play a great part in our personal life as well as in international relations. Borders have defined the relations between states, cultures and people for centuries and thereby shaped international relations.

Borders are a concept that cannot be grasped easily. It has different meanings throughout the world and those meanings are still changing.

Are borders changing in modern society because of globalization? Are borders fading and have we and international relations become more internationalized? Or are borders just the same as they have been for centuries or has the number of borders increased since the breakdown of the Soviet Union? These are all question that will play a central role in the Clio Conference of 2012.
