Hidden Strings: Behind the Scenes of World Politics
On the 30th of April 2019 around 150 participants strived for uncovering hidden strings underlying today’s political power structures. By means of interesting lectures, engaging workshops and a multi-facetted closing debate people got new insights into the ever changing world of IR.
Our century is marked by interconnectedness. Globalization, technological advancement, mobility and flexibility are key words, describing the current situation in the world. However, also the question of power is arising - of power to take political and economic decisions, which have consequences for the entire world population.
This year’s conference set out to get a better and closer understanding of many of the individual strings which are interwoven with each other and together form a large net of power. These strings can often be difficult to see with naked eyes, as they appear to be hidden. It was our, the Conference Committee’s, aim to unravel this tangle and make the strings visible.
Together with renowned speakers from the fields of academia, business and journalism, participants had the possibility to gain a deeper insight behind the scenes of world politics. The different strings, such as lobbyism, diplomacy, economic elites, global financial systems, secret services, water diplomacy and power politics were uncovered this day.
